How often do you sing the Star Spangled Banner? If you are an American, you probably haven’t sung it daily since you left grade school. And if you don’t go to live sporting events, it may be a long time since you’ve had the chance. However, with the 4th of July having just past, most Americans sang that familiar tune at least once. I was one of them.
As I stood, hand over heart, singing the land of the free and the home of the brave – the words struck me with fresh meaning.
If each of us is going to be free we are called upon to be brave in all areas of our life – big and small.
To be FREE to take on new creative projects, I have to be BRAVE enough to:
– Deal with the stack of papers on my desk
– Recognize my fear of making mistakes and move forward anyway
To be FREE to develop new relationships, I have to be BRAVE enough to:
– Leave old ones
– Risk rejection
To be FREE to explore new opportunities, I have to be BRAVE enough to:
– Feel uncomfortable
– Overcome my fear of the unknown
To be FREE to learn a new skill, I have to be BRAVE enough to:
– Be a Beginner
– Look foolish
To be FREE to take a risk, I have to be BRAVE enough to:
– Explore my limiting beliefs
– Ask for help
