This is not fashion advice from a country music star!

It’s a warm early spring night and we are having friends over for dinner.
Come over at 6:30.
It’s casual.
No, you don’t need to bring anything.

Earlier in the day, I set the table – something I love doing.  Flowers from Costco, simple round black mats, crisp white damask napkins, wine glasses, and silver goblets.  My grandmother gave me the goblets when I got married the first time.  The elaborate monogram is no longer mine, but that doesn’t matter.  Although my grandmother died decades ago, I think of her when I use them.  For many years, I only used them for special occasions: Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Perhaps I thought they should be “saved,” or perhaps I was afraid people might think I was showing off.  Whatever the reason, they stayed neatly put away waiting.  Then one day they weren’t.

Maybe it’s an age thing or a confidence thing, or maybe it’s recognizing that everyday is special.

So, if you are waiting to use the good silver, the good china, the good whatever, stop waiting.  Use it now.

If you are waiting to tell someone you respect, admire or love them, stop waiting.  Do it now.

If you are waiting to be all you can be, stop waiting.  Be it now.

Today is as special a day as we will have.  It’s why on Saturday night, after I put on my jeans and white shirt, I pinned on a diamond and sapphire broach – because it’s beautiful and because it was a special night with friends.

This week, experiment enjoying something you normally “save.”  Let me know how it goes.

Until next Tuesday,

Elizabeth
