I have an older friend I love who is long past retirement and has always been involved in community projects and volunteering. I haven’t heard from her in ages, but this morning she finally called me back and apologized for not keeping in touch.
“You know I’m just letting go of a lot of things,” she told me. “I used to hold myself to such a schedule, and now I don’t. I know I should be doing more and going out more. I just don’t really want to.
“Are you happy?” I asked.
“I am!” she said cheerfully. “I am really enjoying my life. It feels good being me. ”
“Is that OK?”
She paused. “You know,” she said finally, “I guess it is OK.”
It’s so easy to hold onto patterns of behavior and rules that no longer apply to where we currently are in our lives.
Here’s the Yippee Challenge . . .
The next time you find yourself saying: I really should ______________(fill in the blank),pause for a minute, then ask yourself: Why should I____________________?
Listen to your own answer, then YOU decide if that reason is still valid for who you are and who you want to be at this time in your life.
Let me know how it goes.
Until next Tuesday. YIPPEE!
